The applicant must be a delegate producer with at least two short films or one feature film to their name, so a screenwriter cannot apply alone. Session A is open to producers anywhere in the world with a project showing a clear intention to collaborate with Singapore or Southeast Asia through financing, creative talent, shooting locations or other resources. Session B is open to Singaporean producers, or Southeast Asian producers with a Singaporean co-producer attached. Feature film projects only, and projects with some financing already in place are prioritised. In-person attendance in Singapore from 26 October to 1 November 2026 is mandatory, and workshops are conducted in English.
Prizes
Prizes are named but not quantified anywhere. Session A projects are eligible for production support prizes awarded by the jury, and Session B projects for travel grants and placements at an international market, with the guidelines also referring to sponsored or cash prizes. No amounts, currency or number of prizes is published. Session A participants are offered a flight stipend and hotel accommodation in Singapore; Session B participants are offered hotel accommodation, with the guidelines silent on flights rather than excluding them.
Judging
Selection is by the festival, with prizes awarded by a jury whose members are not published. The 2026 Head of Studies is Séverine Tibi, creative analyst for Sons of Rigor Films and co-founder of Sevana Films. Applicants are notified by the end of September 2026. No feedback is given: the festival states plainly that it does not produce an individual explanation for the non-selection of an applicant.
The PreList verdict
Start with what this is not. You cannot apply to it as a screenwriter. The applicant of record must be a producer with at least two short films or one feature behind them, and the festival states outright that no script is submitted because the selection process does not evaluate script quality. What it actually is, is a seven-minute pitch to financiers, commissioners and co-production partners from across Asia Pacific and Europe, in Singapore on 30 October, with hotel accommodation covered and, for international producers, a flight stipend on top.
The honest part: for a writer this only pays off at one remove, as the author of a project that a qualifying producer carries into the room. It is genuinely free to enter, and SGIFF says so in words rather than leaving you to infer it from an absence, which is more than most manage. But the prizes are named with no figures attached anywhere: production support prizes, travel grants, sponsored or cash prizes, and not one amount, currency or count published in the guidelines or on the page. The jury is not named either. And while Session A producers are offered a flight stipend, the guidelines simply go quiet on flights for Session B rather than saying there are none.
Worth knowing about if you have a producer attached and a feature aimed at Singapore or Southeast Asia, or if you are a writer-producer yourself and can apply in your own right. Session A takes producers from anywhere in the world with a credible intention to collaborate with the region; Session B is for Singaporean producers, or Southeast Asian producers with a Singaporean co-producer. Submissions close on 20 August 2026 at 11.59pm Singapore time, and attendance in Singapore from 26 October to 1 November is not optional.

Can I apply as a screenwriter?
No. The applicant must be a delegate producer with at least two short films or one feature to their name. SGIFF does not ask for a script and states that its selection process does not evaluate script quality. A writer benefits only as the author of a project that a qualifying producer takes forward, or by applying as a writer-producer in their own right.

The 2026 competition closed on 3 August 2026 at 11:59pm Pacific, and winners are announced on 31 October. No 2027 dates have been published. Across four evidenced cycles the shape is very consistent: entries open between mid-February and mid-March, the final deadline lands in the last week of July or the first days of August, and winners are announced in the last week of October, preceded by a four-stage announcement cascade through late September. One drift worth noting: both the opening and the final deadline have moved a little later every year, from 14 February and 25 July in 2023 to 18 March and 3 August in 2026. Fees have been identical across 2024, 2025 and 2026.
