Judging
Five writers are selected per cycle for an approximately six-month mentorship.
The PreList verdict
New Voices aims at exactly the writer the big studio programmes miss: US-based, unrepresented, never staffed, and early enough in their career that US$7,500 and six months of one-on-one mentorship genuinely changes their year. The mentors are working TV writers, the cohort is five fellows, and Humanitas's name carries weight with development executives.
The honest part: it is US-only and strict about it, the stipend is a fraction of what the studio pipelines pay, and with five places the odds are steep. The US$55 entry fee had hardship waivers this cycle, which is a good sign of the programme's intent.
One practical note: Humanitas used to take submissions through Coverfly, which no longer exists. Applications now run through Humanitas's own submission portal, so treat any guide that mentions Coverfly as out of date.
The 2026 window ran 18 February to 6 April and is closed, with fellows announced in August. If you are an unrepresented US writer with a strong pilot, put the next window on your calendar now; this is one of the few programmes genuinely built for where you are.
