Open worldwide; entries must be in English and stories can be set anywhere. You enter a screen story for a feature-length screenplay (90 to 120 pages when written). TV dramas, sitcoms, short films, theatre and radio plays are excluded. Multiple entries are permitted at £45 each.
Prizes
First prize is a year of script development valued at £1,200, including full feedback reports on three drafts. Second prize is a Euroscript Full Report on any completed script (valued £300); third is a Euroscript Barometer Report (valued £120). Every entrant receives a Treatment Barometer Report.
Judging
Entries are read anonymised and judged by a panel of writers, who draw up a shortlist and pick three winners, announced in June. The 2026 edition was the competition's 32nd running.
The PreList verdict
Euroscript judges the story rather than the script: you enter a prose outline of no more than 750 words plus ten sample pages, and every entrant receives a Treatment Barometer Report on what they submitted. That makes the £45 one of the few contest fees that buys something regardless of whether you place, and it catches structural problems while they are still cheap to fix.
The honest part: the prizes are development packages, not money. First is a year of script development valued at £1,200 including feedback on three drafts, second a £300 full report, third a £120 Barometer Report. Nobody is going to option your work off the back of this. It is also strictly feature-only, so TV drama, sitcom, shorts, theatre and radio are all excluded.
Enter if you are at outline stage and want a professional read on whether the story holds before you commit months to the draft, which is the single most useful moment to buy feedback. The 33rd competition closes at midnight on 31 March 2027 at £45 per entry, and you may enter as many stories as you like at that rate.

Filmmatic Comedy Screenplay Awards

The 2026 season closed on 30 June 2026 with accolades announced by 15 August, and no 2027 dates have been published. One caution if you go looking: filmmatic.com's own page currently shows a deadline ladder headed 2025 which is actually the 2023 season's dates, so use the FilmFreeway listing, which is the reliable source. We could only evidence two seasons, and every 2026 milestone fell exactly one month earlier than its 2023 counterpart, so treat the shape loosely rather than as a fixed calendar: entries open around March, the final deadline falls around the end of June, and results land in mid-August.

Submissions for 2026 closed with the late deadline on 15 August 2026 (earlybird 15 June at 20 pounds, regular 15 July at 25, late 35, or 30 for students and FilmFreeway Gold members). Finalists were notified on 4 September; the Awards Evening is at Komedia in Bath on 19 October 2026, during the festival (16 to 25 October). Submissions opened on 19 May this year, so expect the 2027 call around May 2027.

The 2026 round closed at 10pm on Sunday 8 February 2026 and applications are now shut. Do not try to plan around a pattern here: the deadline has moved across January, February, April, May and September in six documented cycles, and the gap between the 2025 close in September 2024 and the 2026 close in February 2026 was roughly seventeen months. The only durable features are a 10pm cut-off and a Sunday close in the most recent rounds. The page limit has also drifted, from 8 to 15 pages in the 2024 and 2025 calls to a maximum of 12 in 2026.

The 2026 round opened on 11 June 2026 and closed at 11:59pm on 2 July 2026, with no timezone published. IMPORTANT: this is not an annual scheme, despite being long-standing. Evidenced cycles ran in October 2021, August and September 2023, and June and July 2026, and ITV's own run-count confirms no cycle in 2022, 2024 or 2025. The window has moved from October to late August to mid June across those three rounds, with two and three year gaps between them. Do not diarise against it.
