What the door states mean
Most "accepting submissions" lists are stale the month after they are written, and a stale "open" costs a writer their one shot with that company. This directory records the door state instead, verifies it against the organisation's own pages, and shows you the date it was last checked.
- Open to submissions
- They accept unsolicited scripts from unrepresented writers. Genuinely rare, and the first thing we verify against their own pages.
- Query letters only
- Send a short pitch, not the script. Most working doors look like this, and sending a full PDF anyway is how a door gets burned.
- Submission windows
- The door opens for a period, then shuts. We show dates when the organisation publishes them, and say so plainly when it has not.
- Via representation only
- Approachable through an agent or a referral. Listed so you stop spending postage on it, and because the page explains which routes do exist.
- Closed to unsolicited work
- No route today. We say that plainly rather than leaving you to find out after three months of silence.
