The 2026 round ran from 3 October and was scheduled to close on 27 October 2025 at 11:59pm Pacific, but hit its 1,000 application cap first and shut early. FOX says only to check back next autumn for the next cycle. The programme is genuinely annual across three evidenced cycles, but the window has moved earlier and shortened each time, from a roughly 40 day window opening in December, to 16 days in mid-October, to 25 days in early October. The 1,000 cap was introduced for the second of those and has closed the window early both times since, so the published closing date is a ceiling rather than a plan.

No age, residency, citizenship or work-authorisation requirement is published anywhere, which is a genuine gap. You need not live in Los Angeles, but FOX states there may be in-person events or meetings there that participants are expected to attend. WGA status is irrelevant. Prior paid writing work is fine within a cap: you may still apply if you were at staff writer level on no more than one season of a show, and no explicit bar on currently staffed writers is published. Writing teams are accepted, with bios and resumes for each member. Submit one original episodic pilot script as a PDF; anything that is not an episodic pilot will be disqualified. All genres including comedy, drama and animation. Scripts must be fully original, must not incorporate or build on existing intellectual property, and scripts relying on generative AI are not accepted. Resubmissions must have changed by at least 75 per cent. Judging is not blind: your name may remain on the cover page.
Prizes
TREAT THIS AS UNPAID. FOX's overview page promises a stipend once, in a sentence that is visibly garbled and has been live since at least November 2025, while three separate passages state that participants will not be entitled to and will not receive any wages, remuneration or financial benefits as compensation. Those denials are framed as an unpaid-trainee legal test, which is structurally incompatible with paying a stipend, so the single stipend mention should not be relied on. RIGHTS ARE THE HEADLINE RISK, and FOX is unusually direct about it. In the same answer that denies payment, FOX states there will be an exchange for certain rights to the written materials submitted and created during the programme, and refers applicants to the FWI Letter Agreement. Two binding documents are required at application, the Submission of Materials Release and Agreement and the FWI Letter Agreement, and neither is published: both sit behind account registration. So rights are confirmed to be exchanged in place of payment, and the specific option, first-look or assignment terms are not public. Note too that participants rewrite their submitted scripts during the programme, so the agreement reaches both submitted and newly created material.
Judging
Submissions are reviewed by professional readers and FOX Entertainment executives, none of whom are named. Finalists need two people willing to give recommendations by phone; written recommendation letters are not accepted. No individual feedback is given on submissions because of volume. THE CAP IS THE THING TO PLAN AROUND: applications close at 1,000 submissions or on the published date, whichever comes first, and in both of the last two cycles the cap closed the window early. Treat the published deadline as a ceiling and the opening day as your real deadline.
The PreList verdict
Four places, an intensive rewriting workshop modelled on a real writers room, FOX executives as direct mentors, and priority in staffing meetings on FOX shows at the end of it. As a route into a network room it is about as direct as an open application gets, and FOX is honest that neither meetings nor staff jobs are guaranteed. There is no application fee, WGA membership is irrelevant, and you can still apply if you have been staffed at staff writer level on up to one season.
Two things matter more than anything else here. First, apply on the day it opens. The window closes at 1,000 applications or the published date, whichever comes first, and in both of the last two cycles the cap shut it early. The stated deadline is a ceiling, not a plan.
Second, understand what you are trading. FOX states in its own FAQ that there will be an exchange for certain rights to the written materials submitted and created during the programme, and points you to an FWI Letter Agreement. That agreement and the accompanying release are both required at application and neither is published: they sit behind account registration. So rights are being exchanged in place of payment, and you cannot read the terms before committing to apply. On payment itself, the page promises a stipend once in a visibly broken sentence and denies any wages or financial benefits three times in language framed as an unpaid-trainee test. We would read that as unpaid. If the rights terms matter to you, and they should, ask FOX for the agreement before you start.

The 2026 cycle is complete and no dates have been published for the next round. That cycle ran an earlybird deadline on 13 November 2025, regular on 4 December, late in late December and extended on 15 January 2026, with notification on 12 March and the lab running 10 to 12 April 2026. On the application fee: one is required and the festival calls it a non-refundable application fee, but no amount is published on any live page. For reference only, the 2025 cycle ran 60, 65, 75 and 90 dollars across the four tiers and the 2024 cycle ran 55, 60, 70 and 85, rising five dollars per tier year on year. We have not projected a current figure from that. The calendar itself is the most predictable of its peers, opening at the end of October or start of November, four tiers to mid-January, notification mid-March and the lab in the first or second weekend of April, drifting only by days across three evidenced cycles.

The 2026 contest closed on 8 May 2026 and winners are announced on 15 October. PAGE publishes its opening date in advance and states that entries for the 2027 competition open on 1 December 2026. This is the most reliable calendar of any major contest we carry: it has opened on 1 December in every one of the last four cycles, run a ladder on the 15th of January, February, March and April, and announced quarter-finalists on 15 July, semi-finalists on 15 August, finalists on 15 September and winners on 15 October, unchanged year after year. The only moving part is the final tier, which has fallen between 8 and 20 May. Fees have risen once in four years. If you enter one contest on a diary reminder, this is the one to set it for.
