It costs €3,000 if you get in

That is charged after selection and is separate from any entry fee above. Charged per team of two people rather than per participant, which makes it the better value of the two TorinoFilmLab labs if you are applying as a pair. A third participant, a co-writer or director, costs a further 2,000 euro. VAT is charged if due and is not quantified. Covers training, accommodation with breakfast, and lunches plus some dinners during the three residential weeks; travel and remaining meals are not included. Half-fee scholarships are available for participants from low-capacity countries, underrepresented groups and others in proven financial need, and national partner funds have covered half the fee for specific nationalities in past editions.

Open to teams of European writers or writer-directors and their producers, and to teams of international writers or writer-directors and their producers working on a project with European co-production potential. A producer is required and must supply a letter of interest, so a lone writer cannot apply. A director is not required. The minimum team is two people; a third participant, a co-writer or director, is admitted in exceptional cases. Fiction television series only: mini and limited series, multiple-season series, episodic and continuing formats are all accepted, but documentary series concepts are not. Original concepts and adaptations both accepted, with rights secured for adaptations. Early development stage only. English is mandatory and the video introduction must be spoken in English, with other languages not accepted even with subtitles. No prior credit requirement is published.

Prizes

A development grant of 10,000 euro is awarded at the end of the programme to one project, selected by an international jury nominated by TorinoFilmLab. Beyond that there is no cash award. The participation fee covers training, accommodation including breakfast, and lunches plus some dinners during the residential workshops; travel and remaining meals are borne by participants.

Judging

Applications are shortlisted with notification in mid-March, followed by video interviews. Head of Studies is Eszter Angyalosy. The 2026 tutors were Gyorgy Barathy, Kirsten Ittershagen and Cyril Tysz. The development grant winner is chosen by an international jury nominated by TorinoFilmLab. No written feedback is published as a deliverable.

The PreList verdict

SeriesLab is TorinoFilmLab's television strand, and the better structured of its two main labs if you have a producer beside you. Six months, up to nine projects in groups of three, each with an experienced tutor, ending in a pitch to industry and a 10,000 euro development grant for one project chosen by an international jury. Backed by Creative Europe, with residential weeks in Poland, Spain and Turin.

The honest part: it costs 3,000 euro plus VAT if due to participate. The good news is that unlike ScriptLab this is charged per team of two rather than per head, so a writer and producer pay 3,000 between them rather than each. A third person costs another 2,000. The fee covers training, your bed and most meals during the residential weeks but not travel, and half-fee scholarships are available for writers from low-capacity countries, underrepresented groups and others in proven need.

The gate here is a producer, not a director. SeriesLab does not require a director attached, which makes it more open than ScriptLab on that count, but it does require a producer who must write a letter of interest, so a lone writer cannot apply either way. There is no credit requirement at all, which is unusually generous for a lab of this standing. Documentary series are not accepted. The 2026 edition has finished and no 2027 call is announced, so watch the autumn.

Script Pipeline TV Writing Contest

The 2026 contest (the 19th annual) closed on 31 May 2026 and no 2027 dates have been published. It has shared its deadline ladder with the Script Pipeline Screenwriting Contest in every year we could evidence: a Special Entry tier the preceding September, pre-registration at the end of December, an early tier in early March, regular on 1 May and late on 15 May. Results run July into early August. On that pattern the 2027 contest would be expected to open around September 2026, but nothing is published yet. Note the contest was renamed from Competition to Contest between 2024 and 2025, so older links may fail. Original pilots only: specs of existing shows are not accepted.
