How to approach
The referral is the submission. Their policy for film, television and theatre writers is that unsolicited material is deleted without being read, and that a writer referred by a producer, development executive or course tutor should email the agent directly with a CV and details of who referred them.
So the work is not persuading the agency, it is earning the recommendation. Course tutors count, which matters more than writers assume: a screenwriting MA, a broadcaster scheme or a development executive who has read your work through a competition are all routes to a name you can legitimately cite. Name the person, say what they read, and attach the CV rather than the script.
